SMITH WIGGLESWORTH

Wigglesworth_Bio
Born in 1859, he began to work in the fields at 6 years of age in England from morning till night because of the poverty of his family. At 7 years of age he began to work in a woolen mill with his brother and father. He arose at 5 AM and walked two miles to get to work by 6 AM. He worked 12 hours daily.
He always had a longing to know God. He remembered kneeling in a field, asking God to help him. He remembered walking to work in a lightening storm, praying for protection. God answered.

“When I was 8 years of age, I attended a revival meeting (at my grandmother’s Weslyan Methodist Church). I can remember one Sunday morning at seven o’clock when all those simple folks were dancing around a big stove in the center of the church clapping their hands and singing:
Oh, the Lamb, the bleeding Lamb
The Lamb of Calvary
The Lamb that was slain,
That liveth again
To intercede for me.
As I clapped my hands and sang with them, a clear knowledge of the new birth came into my soul. I looked to the Lamb of Calvary. I believed that He loved me and had died for me……I knew I had received a new life which had come from God. I was born again…..He made the condition as simple as He possibly could---‘Only Believe’. That experience was real and I have never doubted y salvation since that day.”

He loved going to meetings but could not speak out. He had a terrible bondage. One day three older men laid hands on him and the Spirit of the Lord came upon him and he was set free. From the time of his conversion, he was a soul winner, leading his own mother to the Lord. When he was 13 years old, he preached his first sermon. When he was 16 years old he began to spend time in fasting and prayer with the Salvation Army people for the salvation of the lost. Every week they saw many born again. When he was 20 years old, he used to gather very poor boys and girls, using all of his income to buy food for them. Hundreds were getting saved. He fasted and prayed every Sunday. He never saw less than 50 people saved each week among the children, in the hospitals, on the ships, and in the Salvation Army.
